On March 7, 2017, SIRS participated in the live broadcast of the launch of the Sentinel-2B satellite in Darmstadt. SIRS presented its European mapping activities with Sentinel-2 images.
S2B now successfully completes the Sentinel-2 constellation, which is essential to SIRS land monitoring activities.

SIRS has attended the GEOFORAFRI conference on "Earth observation for forests and lands sustainable management in Central and West Africa". This international conference was held from 26 to 28 January 2016 in Abidjan (Ivory Coast). SIRS has presented his current harmonization work on forest maps over Cameroon and CAR (REDDAF/OSFT).

In November, 2015: SIRS is retained by the CNES in partnership with the IRD Reunion and various research teams from Reunion within the project Kalideos.From 2016 till 2019, this program's objective is to develop a multithematic and multisource use (optics, radar) of the imagery.The Reunion Island was chosen for the richness of its environments and the potential applications on a relatively restricted territory.

SIRS activities on the development of a national forest cover monitoring system for Gabon were presented.
The ANR co-funded ALMIRA project official Kick-off workshop was held in Montpellier SupAgro from 26 to 28 March 2014. ALMIRA is aimed at studying the impact of climate change on agricultural land use in the Mediterranean basin. SIRS is in charge of spatial data management and land use/cover mapping.
The kick-off meeting of the European URBIS project was held in Luxemburg on 7 May 2014. The aim of URBIS is to develop a European service for identifying and characterizing urban vacant sites. SIRS is the project technical coordinator.
SIRS was recently invited to chair the session on Urban Planning and Public Services as part of the “Copernicus- Sentinels Serving Society and the Environment” conference which was held in Athens on 12 and 13 May 2014 and organised by the EU Greek Presidency (http://congrexprojects.com/2014-events/Copernicus/introduction).
SIRS presented the results of its work on the Potential of Sentinel 2 constellation to provide near real time forest disturbance mapping over cloudy areas in Gabon as part of the “Sentinel 2 for Science” workshop which was held at the ESA-ASRIN premises in Frascati from 20 to 22 May 2014 (http://seom.esa.int/S2forScience2014/index.php).
SIRS was recently invited to participate to the GeoTechforCarbone 2014 conference which was held in Abidjan from 15 to 17 January 2014 and organised by the “Bureau National d’Etudes techniques et de Développement” from Ivory Coast with support from IRD, AFD, FFEM, FAO and the Sustainable Development and Environment Ministry of Ivory Coast. The article "Vegetation structure and greenness in Central Africa from Modis multi-temporal data" is publishd in the Philosophical Transactions of The Royal Society, co-authored by Cirad, JRC, SIRS and Universities of Liege (Belgium) and Bourgogne (France).
African forests within the Congo Basin are generally mapped at a regional scale as broad-leaved evergreen forests, with the main distinction being between terra-firme and swamp forest types. The proposed method performs identification of 22 vegetation types (six savannas, two swamp forests,14 forest types).
SIRS is in charge of the maintenace in operational condition of the antenna of Earth station images (SEAS OI) in the Reunion Island in partnership with CLS.

Copernicus is the new name of the European Commission's Earth Observation Programme, previously known as GMES (Global Monitoring for Environment and Security). The new name was announced today by Commission Vice-President Antonio Tajani during the Competitiveness Council.
The Soyuz rocket has orbitedthe second satellite in the constellation Pleiades over the night of December 2 .
The two satellites are placed in the same orbit synchronous at 694 km above the Earth, with a phase shift of 180 °.
The arrival of the Pleiade 1B in the constellation Pleiades will double the capacity of current acquisition, any site will visible every day by one satellite.
The first image is provided in the day Wednesday 5 December.
